AS IT RELATES TO PODCASTING
As It Relates to Podcasting is the go-to podcast for entrepreneurs, coaches, consultants, and content creators who want to launch, grow, and monetize a high-impact show that actually supports their business.
Hosted by podcast strategist and producer Simona Costantini, this podcast teaches you how to start your show with confidence, increase your downloads, attract sponsors and collaborations, streamline your systems, and turn your episodes into a revenue-generating marketing engine.
Each week, you’ll get actionable strategies, expert insights, and behind-the-scenes guidance to help you stand out, stay consistent, and build a profitable podcast that resonates with your ideal audience.

If your podcast stopped growing, the cause is almost never the algorithm. It's a broken system. Podcast growth happens when your systems work together, and one weak system can stall everything else.
Most podcasts don't fail. They plateau.
You're putting in more work than ever. The episodes are good. And the numbers just sit there.
After more than 65 podcast launches with VOLT Productions, I see this every time I walk into a room of podcasters. I've been teaching this topic on stages, in workshops, and in communities over the last year. And the story is always the same.
Podcasters feel like they're doing everything right. Yet nothing is growing. Downloads are stalling, and they're not reaching the audience they want to reach.
Here's why that happens, and what to do about it.
A podcast plateau happens when your effort goes up but your results stay flat.
The algorithm, your consistency, and your commitment are rarely the real cause. A broken system is.
Podcast growth is not random. It happens when all your systems work together.
One weak system bottlenecks everything else, even great content with great guests.
More content does not fix a broken system. Going back to basics often does.
The 10 podcast growth systems fall into three groups: Content Foundation, Visibility and Consistency, and Growth and Momentum.
A podcast plateau is when your effort keeps rising but your downloads, views, and followers stay flat.
It can feel like you're doing so much, day in and day out. You're finding guests. You're researching topics. You're recording episodes, getting them edited, and publishing on the right day at the right time.
And yet it doesn't feel like anyone is hearing or seeing your content.
That's a plateau. And it's not because you're doing anything wrong. It's because something is broken on the back end of your systems, and it's stopping you from reaching the people you need to reach.
Usually not. It's easy to blame the algorithm when your podcast stops growing.
The algorithm isn't showing my content. The algorithm isn't sharing it with the right people. The algorithm is blocking me.
I get it. We don't always know what controls the algorithm, or why one episode takes off and another doesn't.
But here's what I know for a fact. It's not the algorithm. It's not your consistency. And it's not your commitment to your show. In most cases, the reason your podcast stopped growing is a broken system.
Podcast growth happens when all your systems work together, like a well-oiled machine.
Whatever result you want, the answer starts in the same place. More downloads, more views, more watch time, more followers. You go back to the system that supports that result.
When your systems are connected and working toward the same goal, growth follows. When they're not, you're pushing harder for the same flat numbers.
When one system is weak, it bottlenecks everything else you have going on.
You can have the best content. You can have the most powerful guest. You can have the most engaging conversation in your niche.
But if that episode isn't properly optimized, and your systems aren't working together, you won't see the results you're hoping for. One gap holds the rest of your work back.
More content does not fix a broken system.
When growth stalls, most creators try to do more. More episodes. A weekly schedule they can't keep up with. A constant feeling that they need to add more, and more, and more.
I built my growth framework because I saw creators spinning their wheels this way. What they actually needed was to go back to the basics and do the basic things very, very well.
Sometimes that means publishing biweekly instead of weekly. Sometimes it means fixing one system before you touch anything else. Either way, adding volume on top of a broken system only makes the plateau more exhausting.
The 10 podcast growth systems are the framework I use inside VOLT Productions and teach in my workshops. They fall into three groups, and each group does a different job for your show.
Group | What it decides | Systems |
Content Foundation | Whether listeners stay | 1. Positioning, 2. Episode Intent, 3. Retention |
Visibility and Consistency | Whether your episodes are found | 4. Content Optimization, 5. Distribution, 6. Consistency |
Growth and Momentum | Whether your growth compounds over time | 7. Audience Feedback, 8. Data Decisions, 9. Authority Expansion, 10. Momentum |
Here's what each one covers:
Positioning: who your show is for, what problem it solves, and why it exists now.
Episode Intent: every episode has a clear job, whether that's education, trust, attraction, or action.
Retention: hooks, pacing, and structure that keep listeners engaged from start to finish.
Content Optimization: titles and descriptions that attract clicks and get found in search.
Distribution: sharing your episodes intentionally, on the platforms your audience actually uses.
Consistency: publishing without burnout, with systems that support your real life.
Audience Feedback: listening to your audience before you create, and letting them guide your content.
Data Decisions: focusing on the metrics that matter, and patterns over vanity numbers.
Authority Expansion: guests, collaborations, and visibility that borrow trust from aligned audiences.
Momentum: a monthly rhythm that builds, so you're never starting from zero.
Score each system from 1 to 5 for your own show. A 1 means it needs work. A 5 means it's strong and consistent.
Read through the 10 systems above and give each one an honest score.
Circle your two lowest scores and your one strongest.
Ask yourself: if I improved one system in the next 30 days, which would move my show forward the fastest?
Pick that one system and focus on it for the month. Not all ten.
You don't need to fix everything at once. You need the right system, at the right time.
Over the next 10 weeks on As It Relates to Podcasting, I'm taking you through each podcast growth system, one episode at a time. You'll score your show as you go and see exactly where your growth is getting stuck.
Follow the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube so you don't miss an episode. And share it with a podcasting friend whose show has hit a plateau.
Most podcasts stop growing because one of their growth systems is broken, not because of the algorithm. When one system is weak, like positioning, optimization, or distribution, it bottlenecks everything else, even when your content and guests are strong.
A podcast plateau is when your downloads, views, or followers stay flat even though you keep putting in more effort. You're still recording and publishing, but your episodes aren't reaching new listeners.
Not if a system is broken. More content does not fix a broken system. Going back to the basics, and sometimes publishing less often, can do more for your podcast growth than adding episodes.
The 10 podcast growth systems are positioning, episode intent, retention, content optimization, distribution, consistency, audience feedback, data decisions, authority expansion, and momentum. Simona Costantini of VOLT Productions groups them into Content Foundation, Visibility and Consistency, and Growth and Momentum.
Score each of the 10 systems from 1 to 5. Circle your two lowest scores, then pick the one system that would move your show forward the fastest in the next 30 days. Focus only on that system for the month.
