AS IT RELATES TO PODCASTING
Are you looking to discover the hidden secrets today’s top Podcasters don’t tell you about starting, growing, and monetizing a Podcast?
Did you create and launch your show to make an impact, but instead are stuck feeling frustrated with a “Podfaded” show?
Hosted by Simona Costantini, As It Relates To Podcasting is your one-stop-shop for everything relating to podcasting so that you avoid the burnout and podfade while growing your show into a global success.
Let’s get one thing straight—being on the road doesn't mean your podcast has to go radio silent.
Whether you're bouncing between cities, speaking at conferences, visiting your partner, or living that digital nomad life, podcasting can travel with you. And no, it doesn’t require lugging your entire studio in a carry-on.
In this post, I’m breaking down how I podcast while traveling (yep, even across the border!)—the gear I swear by, the mindset that keeps me grounded, and the systems that make it all feel doable.
Let’s dive in.
Here’s the truth: life isn’t always studio-perfect. And honestly? It doesn’t need to be.
Your podcast is an extension of your voice—and your voice gets to be heard whether you’re home, on a hotel floor with a makeshift setup, or sitting at your partner’s kitchen table. Consistency doesn’t mean rigidity. It means adaptability.
I’ve built my show (and my business!) while traveling back and forth between Canada and the US. I speak at events. I meet with clients in person. I record from new places often. And through it all, the podcast keeps flowing.
Here’s how.
My go-to is the Shure MV7. It sounds crisp, professional, and it’s compact enough to twist off the arm in my home studio and screw onto a $15 Amazon tabletop stand when I’m traveling.
💡 Bonus tip: Pack a pop filter if you’re recording in echoey spaces. It helps tame the sound bounce!
I use a small square clip-on light that attaches to my laptop. It’s adjustable (brightness + warmth), fits in my backpack, and makes a world of difference when I’m not near a window.
👉 Pro tip: Face the window or your light source. Never record with light behind you.
I use my 2024 MacBook’s built-in camera when traveling—it’s surprisingly solid, especially paired with good lighting. But if you want a crisper image, bring a compact webcam that clips to the top of your screen.
My favourites:
Descript – for recording + editing
Riverside.fm – for interviews and high-quality local recordings
No need for DSLR cameras or full production kits. Keep it simple and stress-free.

Even the best mic can’t fix a room that sounds like an echo chamber.
Choose a spot with soft surfaces (curtains, rugs, cushions) to reduce sound bounce.
Avoid big empty spaces with hard floors and walls.
If you're recording video, pick a clean, uncluttered background.
Control the light—close blinds behind you, and use a light source in front.
Remember: the goal isn’t perfection—it’s clarity, presence, and intention.
If you’re the kind of person who batches episodes 3 months in advance, I’m applauding you from here.
But if you’re like me—balancing client work, launches, speaking gigs, and life—sometimes recording ahead isn’t realistic. And that’s okay.
Here’s what I do instead:
Create a flexible content calendar (know what you could record even if you don’t do it all now)
Batch record when possible—even 1–2 episodes can give you breathing room
Leave room for real-time, relevant content
You don’t need to be perfectly ahead—you just need to know what’s coming.
Here’s your permission slip: you don’t need studio perfection to deliver massive value.
Your message, your voice, your story—they matter more than perfect lighting or flawless audio. So if you’re inspired while traveling? Hit record. If the background’s a little messy? Share anyway.
Podcasting while traveling is about grace, intention, and keeping the rhythm going. Not about waiting for the perfect moment to create.
So the next time you pack your suitcase, add your mic and mini light too. Your podcast deserves to keep moving—even when you do.
And if you’re looking for help building a portable, powerful podcasting system that works with your life (not against it), let’s talk.
